Sundarbans is a large delta made up of the rivers Ganga, Brahmaputra, Meghna, Hooghly and
Padma spread over Bangladesh and India in an area of over 10 thousand square kilometers. In
West Bengal side, the length of the Sunderbans forest is around 1640 square meters, and it
extends within the North 24 pargana and the South 24 pargana districts. Sunderbans is a
UNESCO world heritage site as well as a Ramsar Wetland site known for its population of the
Royal Bengal tigers, as well as fishing cats.
