The Adobe of Peace - Shantiniketan - By Mrinal Biswas

To refresh the weekend, I have decided to take a small two days trip to Shantiniketan with my friends. Winter is the best time to visit Tagore’s Shantiniketan, as many festivals are celebrated here in winter. Just 4 hours’ drive from Kolkata, and it is even closer to every bong’s heart including me as this place is a perfect blend of unique art and cultural history.
At the very moment we reach here, everyone can feel certain serenity in the nature. Being in the heart of the nature, the beauty of Shantiniketan is pure and majestic. The key attraction of this place is Biswa Bharati University, established by the great novel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This university plays an important role in Shantiniketan’s culture and history that attracts many tourists every year from all over the world.

  • In addition to visit in winter we witness the massive celebration of ‘Poush Mela’. The fair is a perfect amalgamation of people from different culture and traditions. Beside this, Shantiniketan is renowned for another biggest festival which is ‘Basnta Utsav’ or Holi, the spring celebration of colors. One eager to celebrate the Holi festival, have to visit Shantiniketan during spring.
Another prime attraction that attracts me is the ‘Khoai Mela’ or ‘Khoai Haat’ that sits every Saturday besides the Khoai River. You can shop various types of house hold items, handcrafts and clothes from here. The campfire in a full moon light is an additional gift for us that make the trip memorable one. Goezeetrips always makes our trip memorable and comfortable yet affordable. To get the best accommodations, you can visit this link
